What Emotions Can Teach Us

It is a fine line between running away from emotions and fusing with them. But there is a path, accessible to anyone. Being avoidant of difficult emotions disconnects us from ourselves and from others affecting our well-being. A proposed approach is to look at all emotions as serving a purpose: guilt can be looked at as a class for wiser decision making next time, disappointment a class for better preparation. Language can also prove to be our best friend by rewording our thoughts. Instead of saying, “I am sad,” one can say, “I notice that I am feeling sad.” This will bring helpful detachment and awareness — the seed for healing or growth. (741 reads)
