The announcement was made by the Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) Foundation, a charity focused on funding health care initiatives.
Shannon Hunter, the President and CEO of SJRH Foundation, recounted the moment they received the life-changing call from the anonymous donor. Hunter revealed that the donor’s own experience served as the catalyst for their remarkable act of philanthropy, prompting them to allocate the substantial sum towards alleviating MRI wait times.
Zach Kilburn, Horizon’s interim vice-president of professional services, shed light on the pressing issue, disclosing that the average wait for a non-emergency MRI in the region had ballooned to a staggering 369 days. However, with the infusion of this generous donation, a comprehensive plan has been devised to expedite the process and provide timely healthcare to those in need.
